the Buoys Campaign - PAST CAMPAIGN
After much input and public consultation from
numerous members of the concerned public, the Society, and various organizations,
in 1999 the Canadian Coast Guard announced that it would maintain all but one
of the buoys at the entrance to Baie Fine, as well as most of the navigation
aids for the approaches to Little Current. It had originally planned to discontinue
several local aids to navigation as part of a broader modernization program,
and this was of concern to boaters and other interests in the North Channel.
Society
members have been very vocal in their campaign to ensure that the waters of the
North Channel remain safe and pleasant to navigate. These three articles
are a sampling of the Society correspondance with the Canadian Coast Guard
in 1998 when this issue was of concern.
