Youth Programs

I founded the Mayor’s Youth Task Force in 1994 to provide our young people with an opportunity to make a difference. I thank the youth of Markham for their support and enthusiasm in making our community a better place for everyone, and I encourage all young people to get involved.

  • Today more than 300 youth are involved in four councils and the Executive Committee of the Mayor’s Youth Task Force.
  • Throughout the year, Markham’s young people are involved in a number of events, seminars, activities and programs:
    • International Youth Week
    • Youth Drop-In Centres
    • Leadership Enhancement
    • Character Community Family Forum
    • Sporting Activities for Youth
    • United Way Fundraising Campaign
    • Anti-Violence Seminars
    • RANT (TV program)
    • Working with Seniors

  • Representatives of the Mayor’s Youth Task Force also learn valuable leadership skills as members of the Markham Centre Advisory Group and Steering Committees and Boards of Directors for our community-based organizations.
