Don has been an active member of
the Markham community for 28 years. Born in Ontario, he attended
Queen’s University and Knox College at University
of Toronto. Don was an Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and
a Commandant in the Fort Henry Guard.
Concurrent with his business career at Honeywell Limited, Don
served as an elected School Trustee for what was then known as
the York Region Public School Board. In 1981, he became MPP for
York Centre Riding and was later re-elected as the MPP for Markham
Riding. Overall, Don served in the Provincial Legislature for 13
years before resigning in 1994 to run for the office of Mayor of
Markham.
Don is married to Aline, and they have two grown children, Mary
and Paul. Don’s hobbies include golfing, fishing, sailing
and reading, and he enjoys spending time with his family at their
cottage in Midland. |
